I woke up this morning with a gasp that I haven’t written a post here in far too long, careened down the stairs, and here I am at the keyboard, kitchen counter, coffee in the pot, cats playing on the carpet and clouds hanging over the Los Angeles basin.
My last few months have been the busiest yet—and I’m sorry to have left the ol’ Substack hanging—a whirlwind of four projects took my energies elsewhere—projects that I’m very excited to share! I think I’m doing my best work yet.
Project 1: NEW RECORD
This one’s pretty self-explanatory. I’m in the final stages of the next full-length record, hopefully due out late this spring! This one will be a little quieter and maybe a little more country, a little more baroque, and features what I think are the best songs I’ve ever written. I’m really really proud of it.
Project 2: FEATURE FILM SCORE
Not really allowed to say too much yet, but it’s a feature-length fiction premiering this spring. It’s also incredibly good. I was so so excited to be asked to score it—a rare instance where I saw a temp-scored locked cut before being asked to score so I knew exactly how amazing it was. Apologies for the vagueness; stay tuned for early April. Oh, and the score (that includes a few songs!) will get it’s own release!
Project 3: TWO DOC SCORES
One’s about a welsh sculptor, and I scored it using one sound, the CR78 conga sound, that I pitched up and down. This score will also get its own release. I’ve been told it sounds like a one of these head massagers…it’s awesome.
The other is about python hunters in the Florida everglades. Only contributing a few tracks to that, but it’s always a pleasure to dive into synthesizer-world.
Project 4: VINYL!!!!!!
Something something something Love Songs for No One 5 year anniversary deluxe edition….
And more…
All this, and still I’m trucking on Specific Northwest stuff. We have some truly amazing releases coming up. And of course, riding my bicycle.
I WILL WRITE MORE SUBSTACKS!
Thank you for your patience :)
All love,
Austin
